DESCRIPTION:Across South Asia\, some of the most authentic and quietly radi
cal design is happening at the margins of the profession: in studios worki
ng with displaced communities\, in student theses that take gender and lab
our seriously as design questions\, and in collectives building in disaste
r-prone zones. This talk discusses the role of design and architecture in
shaping positive social impact across the region. Can architecture and des
ign be practices of collective care rather than individual authorship? \nP
ractitioners are already proving this to be true. Professionals and studen
ts are working with fishermen to rebuild flood-prone coastlines\, training
self-help groups to construct their own schools\, and documenting vernacu
lar knowledge before it disappears. Together\, these projects suggest that
architecture’s most urgent role today may be relational rather than aes
thetic: a tool for redistributing agency over the built environment. \nThi
s event is part of a series of exhibitions\, “A Common Ground\,” held
across Mysuru and Bengaluru\, from 26 October to 6 November 2026. \nIn col
 laboration with:\n    \nVenue: Auditorium\n\n\nCelebrating the Architect
ure and Design of the Everyday across South Asia\nRSVP here (https://docs.

DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to an exclusive preview of BuCo.\, a first tas
te of our menu before we officially open our doors in Bangalore.\n\nBuCo.
began in Mangaluru\, a coastal town whose flavours have always deserved mo
re attention than they get. We started as an artisanal bakery built on one
belief: the best food comes from knowing exactly where your ingredients c
ome from and exactly what you’re doing with them.\n\nToday\, BuCo. is a
modern neighbourhood cafe rooted in Karnataka’s culture.\n\nOur menu is
anchored in regional flavours and seasonal produce\, with a fully in-house
bakery that brings European baking techniques to local ingredients. All o
f it is backed by a serious filter coffee program.\n\nEverything is made i
n house\, and every element is locally sourced. We don’t take shortcuts.
That isn’t because it’s trendy. It’s because the food demands it.\n
\nAfter our flagship store in the heart of Mangaluru\, we’re now bringin
 g BuCo. to Bangalore.

DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, Rajeev Kumar will take you through the 14 billio
n years of the evolution of the Universe\, from its earliest moments to th
e present epoch. From the tiny primordial fluctuations that seeded cosmic
structures to the mysterious nature of dark matter and dark energy\, our U
niverse presents a remarkable puzzle: why does it have the properties we o
bserve? \n\nWhile the standard cosmological model describes a wealth of ob
servations with remarkable success\, the fundamental origins of these prop
erties remain elusive. In this talk\, I will explore how early Universe ph

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the book discussion of A Moving Line \, a celebrat
ion of India’s rich history of visual storytelling. Comic creator and vi
sual artists Rahil Mohsin and Mia Jose will be in conversation with de
signer Kriti Monga to reflect on how storytelling in graphic narratives
have evolved over centuries and the many nuances and developments in it.
This will be followed by an interactive Q&A with the audience. Here are t
he details: Date: 31st October 2026\, Sunday Time: 6:00 PM (seating begi
ns at 5:45 PM) Venue: Champaca Bookstore\, Vasanth Nagar RSVP here to re
gister. About the book:   Stories\, whether written or drawn\, are always
moving\, reshaped by every generation that inherits and retells them. Ind
ia has a long and rich history of visual storytelling\, from temple walls
and painted scrolls to comics\, graphic novels and webcomics. Published by
the Museum of Art and Photography\, A Moving Line traces this history\,
revealing unexpected connections between works that are rarely considered
together. The eight essays and eleven graphic narratives in this collecti
on range from the timeless to the future-forward. Bringing together contri
butions by scholars\, practitioners and artists\, this book explores the m
any nuances and developments in sequential storytelling. A Moving Line ce
lebrates a medium that has always been\, and continues to be\, inherently
visual. Meet the speakers: Rahil Mohsin is a Bangalore-based comic artist
 \, writer\, and co-founder of Hallubol \, the world’s first bilingual D
akhni-English comic series. With over 15 years in comics and illustration\
, he has worked with publishers\, both international and local including S
cout Comics\, Scholastic\, Sufi Comics and Comixense and is a familiar fac
e in the thriving independent Indian comics scene. He has illustrated chil
dren’s books for Room to Read\, while Pratham's Fayu & Dariya Ka Jinn
marks his debut as both writer and illustrator. His work explores language
\, folklore\, memory\, food\, and everyday life through comics and picture
books. Rooted in his Dakhni Muslim identity and upbringing in Bangalore\,
his practice celebrates multilingual storytelling\, cultural memory\, nei
ghbourhoods\, and South Indian experiences.  Mia Shay Jose (she/they) is
a trans artist and researcher from Kerala\, currently based in New Delhi.
Led by a keen sense of narrative\, her work probes questions of gender\,
inheritance and embodiment in cultural stories\, informed by her lived exp
eriences of transition: of body\, culture and faith. She approaches system
s both through the lens of a transgender body and that of a legal research
er\, searching for a reconciliation of conflicted parts essential to the s
elf. Over the last 2 years\, this search has led to Negotiations \, a com
ic travelogue charting the policing of non-binary bodies across public spa
ces\, Regards Your Skin \, an anthology around self-policing and motherho
od\, and a public mural with trans communities in Kerala. Her primary inte
rest is in the physical body as the primary site of violence - inflicted b
oth by a deeply binary society\, and as a consequence\, the self. Across i
 llustrations\, writings\, collage\, installations and comics\, her works a
re grounded in the dialogue between constructed identities and policed spa
ces. Meet the moderator: Kriti Monga brings over two decades of design ex
perience to her multi-disciplinary practice\, blending artistic expression
 \, strategic design\, and hands-on craftsmanship. The founder-director of
the acclaimed Turmeric Design\, her work spans brand building\, book desig
n\, visual art\, illustration\, and mentorship. She also teaches professio

across India and beyond\, from 1538 to its modern\, digital forms. Drawing
on a landmark exhibition and the accompanying publication\, Odyssey of th

ies\, still tell us about where we come from? \nBringing perspectives of n
umismatists\, economists\, and historians from the book\, the talk examine

DESCRIPTION:The 2026 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine went to researc

togenetics. Optogenetics is the technique of using genetically expressed l
ight-sensitive proteins to control the activity of brain cells. \n\nJoin
Upinder Singh Bhalla for a lecture tracing the story of how very basic res
earch into the light responsiveness of a single-celled plant micro-organis

. Come discover the path of development of optogenetics\, both as a triump

 meeting fellow readers for the first time — it's a relaxed\, low-stakes

arriers of culture\, stories\, and transformation. As they flow across var
ied landscapes\, they shape and are shaped by the people\, traditions\, an
d communities they touch.\nKrishna to Kaveri is a two-day celebration that
draws from this natural rhythm\, exploring how Karnataka’s cultural lif
e is constantly moving\, adapting\, and renewing itself. From classical ro
ots to contemporary reinterpretations\, this festival offers a vibrant wee
kend that speaks to a new generation. Expect immersive workshops\, indulge
nt cuisines and impactful performances!\nWhether you’re a native Kannadi
ga or recently moved into Bangalore\, this festival is for anyone who want
s to connect more deeply with the cultural spirit of the region. Not as ou
tsiders looking in\, but as participants in a living\, flowing cultural jo
urney.\nLet the rivers lead. Let culture move. Let Karnataka unfold.\nಬ

DESCRIPTION:The 2026 Nobel Prize for Literature went to Anne Carson. \n\nJo
in Srilata Krishnan for a talk about Carson’s work and what writers and
artists can learn from it. Carson’s training was in the classics\, which
spurred in her a wide-ranging interest in comparative literature\, anthro
pology\, history and the arts. Hers is a quintessentially interdisciplinar
y mind\, and her work feels like jewels studded with the gemstones of anci
ent Greek and Latin literature (Sappho\, Catullus\, Stesichorus\, for inst
ance) and of writers such as Virginia Woolf\, Keats and Gertrude Stein.\n\
nFormally\, her work may be best described as cross-genre. It is the spiri
t of playfulness and enquiry that drives all of Carson’s work\, making e
ach of her books different from the others. Her playfulness precludes neit
her depth nor rigour\, as borne out by every single work of hers. \n\nAs a
writer\, Srilata has learnt a lot about craft from Carson and will be sha
ring the subtle ways in which reading Carson helped shape her own writing.
\n\nThis lecture is organised in collaboration with Infosys Science Founda
 tion.

DESCRIPTION:Physical Theatre: Its Possibilities and Limits\nA Conversation
with Tushar Pandey\, Ashwath Bhatt and Vivek Vijayakumaran\nModerated by A
nmol Vellani\nPhysical theatre communicates primarily\, though not solely\
, through the language of gestures\, facial expressions and movement. The
exception is mime\, which is non-verbal by definition.\nIn this session\,
three theatre artists will speak about what attracted them to physical the
atre and describe the nature of their involvement in the teaching and prac
tice of this stylised form of performance. As their work as directors and
actors has also extended beyond physical theatre\, they will reflect on th
e reasons for their divergent artistic choices.\nPhysical theatre has many
strengths. Most notably\, it can overcome language barriers\, express wha
t words cannot\, connect with audiences at a visceral level\, harness the
ideas and creativity of the whole group\, and rely on minimalist scenograp
hy. But equally\, it is constrained by the very characteristics that set i
t apart from other theatre styles. This session will conclude with a discu
ssion on the limits of physical theatre and the creative strategies that c
an prevent style from overshadowing substance.\nFor enquiries please conta

DESCRIPTION:Writing Science Fiction Plays for the Indian Stage Script Readi
ng and Conversation with Meghna Roy Choudhury and Abhishek Majumdar\, mode
 rated by Anmol Vellani Thursday\, 26th November\, 5.00 p.m. - 7.00 p.m.Abo
ut the ConversationAfter reading excerpts from their science fiction plays
\, two playwrights will converse on the nature of science fiction\; why th
ey chose to write speculative plays for the Indian stage\; and whether the
y have been inspired or influenced by earlier Indian plays and performance
s in this genre. We will learn from them if writing science fiction for th
e theatre poses unique challenges. They will reference their own plays to
 demonstrate that science fiction is not a form of free-floating fantasy\;
it can\, for instance\, address moral dilemmas and ask searching questions
about the political tendencies of our times.Script Reading:Juno 77By Abhi
shek MajumdarIn Juno 77\, a woman disappears during a space mission. Her p
artner’s search takes him far beyond Earth\, where time unsettles everyt
hing they believed they knew about love\, duty\, and family. When their pa
ths cross again\, each has lived differently and in different references o
f time since the separation. How should they now understand their obligati
ons to one another?Against this story\, Juno 77 asks questions at the hear
t of moral philosophy. Does an intention matter more than its consequences
? Can someone be held to a promise in circumstances no one could have imag
ined? What does it mean to forgive a person whose absence has shaped your
entire life? The play also considers how religion helps us live with such q
uestions. Faith offers ways to think about time\, sacrifice\, suffering an
d the possibility of reunion. Yet those ideas can mean different things to
people who have endured the same loss differently. Bringing space science
into conversation with religious thought\, Juno 77 asks how we make moral
choices when our shared understanding of a life has come apart. It seeks
to examine the question of whether our loves and losses are meaningful or
mere coincidence.Written and directed by Abhishek Majumdar\, the play will
be produced by Nalanda Arts Studio in Kannada and Hindustani versions. The
Archive on the Wall By Meghna Roy ChoudhuryThe Archive on the Wall is a s
cience fiction play inspired by holographic principle theory that explores
memory\, scientific thought\, and political erasure\, set inside a crumbl
 ing flat in contemporary Mumbai.After her mother’s death\, Aparna\, a ph
ysicist turned archivist\, returns to her childhood home to sort through h
er belongings. While scanning the old walls for data\, she discovers that
one wall retains more than structural history. It reacts. It hums. It reme
mbers. As the house approaches demolition\, Aparna uncovers fragments of he
 r mother’s political past\, her own repressed memories\, and traces of v
iolence that were meant to disappear. She must confront what the wall has
preserved and what she has chosen to forget. The play asks what remains whe
n history is erased\, and whether memory can become an act of resistance.A

DESCRIPTION:How Not to Build a Theatre InstitutionA Conversation with Abhis
hek Mudgal\, Sanyukta Saha and Abhishek Majumdar\, moderated by Priyanka V
 arma Friday\, 27th November\, 5.00 p.m. - 6.30 p.m.About the ConversationA
rtists establish and lead theatre institutions (which include long-standin
 g initiatives) for different reasons — to practice\, teach\, present\, a
dvocate or support the art form\, for instance. But such undertakings\, esp
ecially if they function independently of secure government or corporate l
argesse\, can falter or fail. The poverty of infrastructure and support fo
r the theatre are among the external factors that are adduced for the prec
ariousness of artist-led institutions. Internal factors are rarely cited.
What if the institution is over-reliant on personal equations and goodwill
for its sustenance? Or if its ownership is narrowly concentrated in one o
r two charismatic personalities? Or if it is too obsessed with legacy conc
erns to avert obsolescence in a swiftly changing environment? This session
will investigate what might lie inside any theatre institution that could
threaten its stability and hamper its growth. Reflecting on their personal
experience of founding and running institutions\, three theatre artists w
ill tell us about what worked or did not work about the choices they made.
Were discontents allowed to simmer\, tensions swept under the carpet or c
hallenges left unaddressed? In hindsight\, do they regret any missteps or
wish they had done some things differently?About the Participants Sanyukta

DESCRIPTION:DramatherapyExperience Sharing by Vardhan DeshpandeSaturday\, 2
 8th November\, 3.00 p.m. - 4.00 p.m.About the SessionIn this session\, Var

ties as a practice of healing\, expression and transformation.Over the pas
t two-and-a-half years\, he has been working with children at risk through
Dramatherapy sessions\, alongside six months of work with specially-abled
children. This journey has involved much more than conducting sessions
 — it has been a continuous process of observing\, designing\, planning\,
facilitating\, implementing\, documenting and reflecting. Each group and
every individual encounter has shaped his understanding of how theatre\, p
lay\, imagination\, embodiment\, storytelling and creative expression can
create spaces for children to explore themselves\, connect with others and
experience agency. The session will share key experiences from this practi
ce: the challenges encountered\, the learning that emerged\, the questions
that continue to remain\, and the ways in which reflection has influenced
subsequent interventions. It will also look towards the future — consid
ering how Dramatherapy and Applied Theatre can evolve in working with chil
dren and communities\, and the ethical\, creative and contextual sensitivi
ties that such practice demands.About the SpeakerVardhan DeshpandeVardhan

DESCRIPTION:Tradition and Modernity in Contemporary Theatre A Conversation
 with Sharanya Ramprakash\, Laya N Kumar and Parshathy J Nath\, moderated b
 y Lakshmana KP Saturday\, 28th November\, 4.30 p.m. - 6.00 p.m.About the C
onversationThe traditions with which contemporary urban Indian theatre art
ists can engage are immense\, embracing mythologies\, folk tales and perfo
rmances\, art and craft objects and practices\, festivals and rituals\, cu
isine\, inherited knowledge and skills\, and much else besides. At the sam
e time\, the distinction between the traditional and the modern is not cle
arcut. Modern theatre in India has a history that stretches back for over
two centuries — long enough to develop its own traditions. Dance forms n
ow regarded as ‘classical’ acquired modern practices of teaching\, per
formance and patronage in the last century. The theatre artists in this ses
sion will speak about their idea of tradition and how they have interacted
with it in the plays they have written\, directed or performed. They will
also be invited to discuss ethical and political questions that come to t
he fore when tradition is brought into contemporary theatre work. Has thei
r work been sensitive to the claim that borrowing from inherited forms of
expression can constitute a form of cultural theft or disrespects localise
d and context-specific creation of value and meaning? How would they negot
iate with traditions that have been invented in response to market demands
or political pressures? Has their work reconciled with\, or has it offere
d a critical perspective on the feudalism\, casteism and gender discrimina
tion embedded in many traditional performances and stories?About the Parti
cipantsSharanya Ramprakash Sharanya Ramprakash is a Bengaluru-based theatr
e-maker. She places her work at the intersection of gender\, tradition and
language. She writes\, acts\, directs and collaborates with a range of fo
rms\, communities and theatre-makers across local\, national and internati
onal locations. Her work is research-based\, collaborative and exploratory
. She is a member of the Lincoln Centre Director’s Lab\, New York. She i
s also a recipient of the Shankar Nag Theatre Award 2022.Parshathy J NathP
arshathy J Nath is a theatre artist based in Bengaluru. Over the last ten
years\, she has worked with some of the best-known theatre directors in so
 uth India\, including Prasanna Ramaswamy\, Rajiv Krishnan\, Vinay Kumar\,
Nimmy Raphel\, Sharanya Ramprakash\, Aruna Ganesh Ram\, Koumarane Valavane
and Sanjeeva Suvarna. She has trained at Adishakti Laboratory for Theatre
Art Research\, Ninasam and Natanakairali. In 2025\, she received a produc
tion grant from the India Foundation for Arts\, with which she created a s
olo performance piece called Shoorpanakha: A Search. This production has t
ravelled to different cities and has been performed at The School of Drama
and Fine Arts\, Kerala\, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi\, Ranga Shankara
\, and BLR Hubba 2025.Laya N KumarLaya Kumar has trained with groups like
Indian Ensemble\, IAPAR and Bhasha Centre\, and with award-winning theatre
-makers\, including Mahesh Dattani and Gurleen Judge. She has worked as a
producer on Naatak Express\, a fundraiser festival that brings together ov
er 100 artists to make short plays in 24 hours. She also works as a clown
with Clowns Without Borders\, India. Her writings have appeared in Hakara

classroom settings.About the FestivalPLAYINTERPLAY is a theatre festival
