DESCRIPTION:Visual storytelling has always been a medium of documentation\,
communication and expression. While comics give voice to the voiceless\,
and articulates the ridicule we feel vis-à-vis the errors of power struct
ures\, it is also important to observe that a few bodies fall through the
cracks of representation. Who decides who gets omitted? Who decides that e
very medium should follow standards set by the mainstream? Who defines the
se standards of what represents good or evil? And why shouldn’t comics q
uestion and redefine these standards?\n\nJoin us for a walkthrough by Neel
ima Aryan from the Design Team at MAP for a final walkthrough of the exhib

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a screening of a documentary by Sabeena Gadihoke on
3 female photographers: Homai Vyarawalla\, Sheba Chhachhi and Dayanita Si
ngh. \n\nThree Women and a Camera is a film about Homai Vyarawalla\, Indi
a’s first woman photojournalist for three decades from the late 1930s\,
and two contemporary female photographers — Sheba Chhachhi and Dayanita
Singh. Vyarawalla’s work underscores the optimism and euphoria of the bi
rth of a nation\, while Chhachhi and Singh attempt to grapple with the com
plexities and undelivered promises of the post-independence era. This film
debates their concerns regarding representation\, subject-camera relation
ships\, and the limits and possibilities of still photography in India in
the late 1990s.\n\nThe film Three Women and a Camera has won several award
s\, including the second prize at Film South Asia\, a documentary festival
in Kathmandu\, Nepal\, 1999 and a Certificate of Merit at the Mumbai Inte
rnational Film Festival for animation\, documentary and short films\, 2000
.\n\nThis event is part of Art is Life: Elsewhere  hosted in collaboratio
n with Bangalore International Centre\, as an offshoot series of programs
as part of our annual festival Art is Life.

DESCRIPTION:Join photo-journalist\, Prashant Panjiar and writer Valay Singh
for a moderated conversation on the launch of the latest photo book\, 'Ay
odhya: Epicentre of a Divide'.\n\nThe book covers nearly four decades of A
yodhya: its ghats and akharas\, Sufi shrines and Hanuman temples\, barrica
des and barbed wire\, and the laser shows and hoardings of the new temple
town. With an essay by Valay Singh on how Ram was turned into a political
symbol\, this book is a rare long view of a fabled town that became the ep

DESCRIPTION:This 2-hour workshop invites participants to gather and write a
bout or alongside family photographs–a small selection of images or suba
rchive of your choice from family albums that you wish to spend time with.
 \n\nThrough readings\, guided prompts\, and collective writing time\, we
’ll explore different ways of entering a photograph–through memory and
nostalgia\, absence and grief\, grammar and aesthetic\, personal and coll
ective histories\, fiction and speculation\, research and restoration\, po
litical and social contexts\, or simply as a way of staying related to som
eone within the photograph.\n\nThe session begins with a short lecture and
discussion\, followed by a focused 45-minute writing period\, and conclud
es with some reflective time together. Participants are free to write in a
 ny form–poetry\, letters\, essays\, notes\, as research\, or to inspire
making a new artwork. This workshop emphasizes process over product\; noth
ing will be shared or critiqued. This workshop is an invitation to return\
, unceremoniously but persistently\, to look again and pay attention to a
few photographs that ritualize remembering and writing\, amidst so many ot
hers that constantly demand our time. This workshop is open to anyone and
everyone. \n\nAs part of Art is Life: Elsewhere this workshop is hosted a
s an offshoot series of programs hosted at partner venues across Bengaluru
as part of our annual festival Art is Life.

DESCRIPTION:Many contemporary archival practices treat their work as materi
al that engages public memory in the present\; they’re not simply driven
towards finding\, guarding and building safe repositories. They consider
what archives can offer in challenging established narratives and providin
g a framework for engaging with underrepresented histories. How can these
ideas be tinkered around with in educational settings\, and what can that
offer to pedagogy? Through this discussion\, we will engage with archives
that operate out of\, or work with\, educational institutions in different
registers to understand how their practices enter learning contexts and w
hat the future of their work looks like.\n\nWe will be joined by Anjali Ra
machandran from the Archives at the National Centre for Biological Science
s (NCBS) and Mira Brunner from the Queer Archive for Memory\, Reflection\,
and Activism (QAMRA) at National Law School of India University (NLSIU) i

DESCRIPTION:Explore the relationship between visual art and movement in thi
s immersive Odissi workshop. Beginning with a sculpture\, participants wil
l discover how Odisha’s artistic traditions have shaped the classical da
nce form\, exploring its vocabulary through body awareness\, Chauka\, Trib
 hangi\, mudras\, rhythm and abhinaya.\n\nThrough demonstrations\, discussi

visual forms into movement and storytelling. The session will culminate i
n a collaborative movement composition\, followed by learning a simple Odi
