Official Selection to the Oscars! Gondhal is Maharashtra’s ancient all-night devotional folk ritual for goddesses Bhavani and Renuka, referenced since the 13th century and still a wedding custom for many families.Gondhalis sing mythological narratives to sambal, tal, and chipli, dressed vividly and often passing lit torches.The film adopts this ceremony as its setting, rhythm, and pulse.The ritual itself carries the story from dusk to dawn.
