About

Ritu Raga Rang: Seasons through RagasThe world of Hindustani classical music has been traditionally linked to the idea of seasons. Ancient Indian scriptures described six distinct seasons or ritus: Vasant (Spring), Grishma (summer), Varsha (monsoon), Sharad (Autumn), Hemant (Pre-Winter) and Shishir (Winter). Each of these seasons bring about different moods and feelings. In this multi-sensory performance, which includes Ragamala paintings and fragrances that evoke the feelings of each season, Nishant will paint portraits of the ritus using ragas and compositions as a canvas. This programme premiered at Stanford University to a warm reception and now comes to Bengaluru for the first time.Nishant is accompanied by Sri Udayaraj Karpur on tabla and Sri Surya Upadhyaya on harmonium. The concert is set in Sabha, a restored 160-year-old building in Shivaji Nagar, an intimate space well suited to a baithak-style evening of khayal.About the artistNishant Panicker is a Hindustani vocalist of the Agra-Atrauli gharana and a disciple of the late Vidushi Lalith J.
